Toddler falls in borewell in MP's Niwari, rescue operation underway

Rescue operations are underway to save a five-year-old boy who fell in a 200 feet borewell in Niwari. The soil is being excavated by JCB machines from one side. Oxygen pipe has been inserted in the borewell so that the child does not have trouble breathing.

Niwari (Madhya Pradesh): A search-and-rescue operation is being carried out for the toddler boy, who fell into an open borewell in Setupurabarah village of Prithvipur area in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

A joint rescue operation by the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and army for the toddler began yesterday.

"We have got all resources from SDRF, Army, and others. Efforts are underway to rescue the child safely in the next two-three hours," Niwari Pratibha Tripathi, Assistant Superintendent of Police, said on Wednesday.

According to information, Harikishan had dug a borewell at his farm in Barho Bujurg village of Niwari district. The pit was open and a big iron utensil had been kept to close its mouth.

Harikishan's four-year-old son Prahlad was playing near the pit. He had removed the utensil and accidentally fell into the pit.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed confidence that the toddler will be taken out safely.
