Chennai: Actor Rajinikanth's new party name and symbol keep puzzling netizens. Reports said that the actor has registered his party as Makkal Sevai Katchi with the Election Commission.

Prior to this, the actor had registered the party with the name, Makkal Sakthi Kazhagam and had requested for Baba mudra symbol, but the Election Commission opted for auto rickshaw symbol, according to reports. As 'two fingers' symbol resembles Congress the EC rejected it, reports said. Autorickshaw is significant to the actor's persona as his biggest blockbuster 'Baashha' elevated him to a different commercial league in the Indian film industry.

Earlier, putting an end to all speculations regarding the actor's political plunge, Rajnikanth had announced that he would launch his political party in January 2021, months ahead of the Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu. He said an official declaration regarding the same will be made on December 31.

In a brief statement released on Twitter, Rajinikanth said that his party would contest the Assembly election in 2021 and would "emerge victorious."

The superstar had announced his entry into politics in 2017, while Tamil Nadu faced a political vacuum after the demise of AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa and ailing DMK chief M Karunanidhi. He had tweeted "A political party will be launched in January; announcement regarding it will be made on December 31."
