Railways to install 400 plastic bottle crushing machines at stations

The railways will now add money to your mobile phone wallet if you use plastic bottle crushing machines installed at stations as part of efforts to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative of junking single-use plastic.

New Delhi: Indian Railways is soon going to install 400 bottle crushing machines at the stations, in an effort to tackle the menace of growing plastic pollution. Along with this, it will also encourage the passengers to use the plastic bottle crushing machines by recharging their mobile phones.

Passengers wanting to use those machines will have to key their phones numbers into the machine while disposing of their plastic bottles inside that, after which their phone will get recharged.This move comes in a bid of Prime Minister's Narendra Modi's appeal to the people to eliminate single-use plastic and to find an alternative of that.

PM also urged to the world, on Monday, to say goodbye to the single-use plastic.

As per the directions given by Indian Railways, there will be no usage of plastic on its premises from October 2.

Instructions have also been given to all the zones to collect the used plastic bottles at the railway stations and to send them for recycling.

As of now, there are 160 bottle crushing machines installed at 128 railway stations of our country.
