New Delhi: Congress party's former president Rahul Gandhi, on Monday, made serious allegations over BJP-led central government of attacking the informal sector, aiming to 'extort' their money and 'turn them into slave'.

Gandhi released the first episode of his video series 'Arthvyavastha Ki Baat' (let's talk economy) on his social media platforms to explain, "How Modi Government has destroyed the Indian Economy".

While sharing his video, the Congress leader even called the Union Ministers as "Asatyagrahi" for blaming God for the 'economic tragedy' India is facing in the current times.

"The BJP government has been attacking the informal sector over the past six years. I am giving you three massive examples- Demonetization, wrong GST and lockdown," Rahul Gandhi said in his video.

He further alleged, "Don't think the lockdown was unplanned. Don't think it was done at the last minute. The aim of these three decisions was to destroy our informal sector."

Congress also noted in the video that in the last 4 months, around two crore people have lost their jobs and 40 crore labourers of informal sector can get into extreme poverty.

Rahul also cited an example of 2008 recession, in which the entire world was hit by an economic storm. Then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had explained the reason to Rahul Gandhi as why India remained unaffected by the economic storm, saying, "India has two economic structures. One is the formal economy and other is the informal economy. Till the time India's informal sector is strong, no economic storm can touch India."

Rahul expressed his concern that the attack on informal sector will be seen soon as India won't be able to produce jobs in the near future. "Informal sector produces 90 percent of jobs. Once the informal sector is destroyed, India won't be able to produce jobs," he said.

During the COVID-19 induced nationwide lockdown, Congress party had appealed a number of times to the central government to provide Direct Cash Benefit to the informal sector of the country who have got badly affected due to this pandemic.

Addressing the informal sector, Rahul Gandhi said, "You are the ones who run this country. You take us forward and there is a conspiracy against you. You are being cheated and there is an attempt to turn you into slaves. We have to understand this attack and the entire country has to unite to fight against this."
