Punjab sent nearly 4 lakh migrants to their states

Nearly 4 lakh migrant workers were sent from Punjab to their respective states by the special train arranged by the central government. Punjab government has claimed that Rs 21.8 crore has been born by the state government to ferry the labourers.

Chandigarh (Punjab): With 300th Train leaving from Patiala today, Punjab Government on the directives of Captain Amarinder Singh has already facilitated the return of more than 3,95,000 migrant workers to their home states.

Disclosing this here today, the Nodal Officer Vikas Pratap said total 23 trains are running today taking the total number to 311, making Punjab one of the top-performing states in this regard. The state government has spent Rs. 21.8 crores till now in the form of cost of these operations.

The 300th train which was flagged off from Patiala by DC Kumar Amit would take migrants to their homes in Uttar Pradesh.

We are ensuring those wishing to go back are united with their families without any difficulty at the earliest, he said. The State Government has been working round the clock to provide all relief and succour to our guest workers as per the directions of Chief Minister, Nodal Officer Vikas Pratap said adding the task was being accomplished with the collaboration of Deputy Commissioners and the railway authorities of Ferozpur and Ambala Division.

Captain Amarinder Singh had assured all migrants working in the state, ever since the crisis broke out, of all assistance and cooperation to whosoever wants to go back to their home state.

Out of total 311, maximum trains (204) have gone to UP, with another 82 taking migrants to Bihar, followed by 9 to Jharkhand, 7 to Madhya Pradesh and 2 to Chhatisgarh and West Bengal. One train each has gone to Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, Tamil Nadu and Uttrakhand.

Assuring the state's commitment to go the extra mile to mitigate their sufferings, he said adding food, water and other essentials were also being provided to all those travelling back home for their journey.

Besides, Nodal Officers have been deputed for all these states who are pro-actively connecting to their counterparts in other states to facilitate the return of the migrants, and teams constituted at the level of the Deputy Commissioners for the mandatory medical screening of migrants.
