Prime Minister is doing grave injustice to farmers: Sonia

Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi on implementing new farm laws, Congress President Sonia Gandhi termed the new farm laws as 'the black laws'. She also stated that during the Congress regime, no law was passed without consultation with farmers or stakeholders, but in this government, laws are passed to help the crony capitalists.

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday hit out at the Prime Minister on new farm laws which have been enacted. In a video statement, she said the Prime Minister was doing grave injustice to farmers by implementing the black laws.

On the occasion of the Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary, Sonia Gandhi invoked both Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri and said that the soul of India lives in villages while Shastri gave the famous slogan of "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan".

In a video statement, Sonia Gandhi invoked both Mahatama Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, stating, "Gandhiji used to say that the soul of India resides in India's villages, fields and barns. Today is also the birth anniversary of our former Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri ji, who gave the slogan of 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan'."

The Congress President said, "During the Congress government, no law was passed without consultation with farmers or stakeholders, but in this government, laws are passed to help the crony capitalists".

Hitting out at the Central Government, she alleged, "Today, Prime Minister of India is doing gross injustice to the farmers. Those who were making laws for the farmers, who are doing injustice to them, hadn't even consulted the farmers. Ignoring their interests, the Modi Government has enacted three anti-farmer laws just by talking to a few crony capitalists friends."

Gandhi asserted that her party along with the farmers will continue to oppose these new laws till it becomes infructuous. She also attacked the Government for scrapping Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC)

"Perhaps the Modi Government does not remember that it was not able to change the Land Acquisition Law, for the rights of farmers through ordinance. Congress party will continue to fight against the three black laws. I want to say with the claim that this agitation of the farmer and Congress with the successful and the farmers will win." she said.

The party has already asked its government to override the farm laws by passing new laws.

The party is protesting on Friday against the law across the country. Rahul Gandhi will do tractor rallies from Punjab from October 3 to 5, in protest against the Centre's recently enacted farm laws, party sources said on Thursday.

Congress is observing today as 'Save Farmers and Labourers Day' where party workers will protest against the farm laws in each constituency across India, asking immediate withdrawal of these laws. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will also participate in these protests from October 3 to 5, where he will do tractor rallies in Punjab and Haryana.
