New Delhi: Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take note of the unabated protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) following the reported cancellation of the Prime Minister's scheduled Assam visit on Friday.
Prime Minister Modi was scheduled to visit Guwahati on Friday to inaugurate the third edition of Khelo India Youth Games.
The scheduled visit was cancelled following intelligence reports that the present situation is not conducive for the Prime Minister to visit Assam. The state has been witnessing uproar and chaos over CAA.
"The Prime Minister should take note of the anxiety and protest against CAA. However, the cancellation of visit is not enough... The government should repeal the CAA," said Raja.

"We have also appealed to the President to ask the government to reconsider its decision over CAA. In fact, Prime Minister should also review the Act and repeal it," he added.
Referring to Bollywood star Deepika Padukone visiting the protesting students at the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Tuesday, Raja said it was a solidarity visit.
"We visited JNU. It is not only the stars from Bollywood, but several renowned persons from across sections of the society have visited JNU to express their solidarity with the students," said Raja.
Deepika Padukone's visit to JNU has created an uproar across social media, with many criticising her visit as 'anti-national' and 'promotional.' However, she also received support from various other quarters, who applauded her for taking a 'bold' step.
