Haldwani: In the midst of the countrywide onions crisis, a case of violence came to light. Congress Sewa Dal had set up a stall at the Tikonia area of Haldwani to sell onions at subsidised rates. But, when a person came to the stall to buy onions, he could not get them.
Agitated by this, the man bit off the finger of a Sewa Dal volunteer, after which he was beaten up by the other Sewa Dal workers.
The Congress Sewa Dal accused the person to be an agent of BJP. On receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and with a lot of efforts took away the accused.
Chowki Incharge of Bhotia Padaav, Pratap Singh Nagarkoti says that investigation is being carried on in the entire episode and a case will be registered on receiving a complaint.
The prices of onions have skyrocketed in the entire country, and despite all efforts of the government, the prices have not been controlled. In some cities, the prices of onions have reached to INR 150/kg.
Rains in the last few weeks have hurt the supply chain of onions, due to which the prices have continued to rise. That is the reason that many organisations are setting up stalls and selling onions at subsidised rates.
