New Delhi: As the number of fire incidents in trains has increased in the recent past, Railway Board conducted a high-level review meeting with General Managers (GMs) of Zonal Railways and Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs), an official said on Thursday.
While conducting the meeting through video conferencing, Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav gave directions to General Managers for close monitoring of projects related to ensuring safety in train operations.
He emphasized on expeditious completion of safety works like the elimination of Manned level crossings, and construction of Road over Bridge and elimination of old mechanical signalling by electronic signalling.
MoS Suresh Angadi complimented the officers over their performance in the month of August and gave directions to work towards further improving safety, punctuality, cleanliness and upkeep of trains, stations and the comfort of passengers, to meet the expectations of people.
As per the official data of the Ministry, a significant improvement has been achieved in punctuality of mail/express trains, by reaching to 74 per cent as compared to 67 per cent in the last year.
