New Delhi: The National Commission for Women on Tuesday said that it has assured all possible assistance to the family of a 19-year-old Dalit woman who succumbed to injuries after she was gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district.
The victim succumbed on Tuesday morning in Delhi's Safdarjung hospital, two weeks after she was raped by four upper-caste men.
The chairperson of National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma said that the commission took suo moto cognizance of the incident and had received an action taken report from the Uttar Pradesh police on the matter and it was told that four accused were arrested and charges were framed against them and compensation was also given to the victim.

She said the commission has reached out to the victim and has assured him of all possible assistance.
"An NCW member is going to meet the brother of the victim, we will be helping the family in whatever way we can", the chairperson added.
According to sources, the victim was initially admitted to a district hospital 15 days ago with serious injuries. She was admitted to AMU's Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Aligarh soon after the incident took place on September 14, before moving to Safdarjung Hospital in the national capital.
It was also learnt that the police said the victim had been dragged into a field and gang-raped. She had also been strangled with her dupatta.
Earlier today, NCW took to the twitter and said, " NCWIndia Member Rajul Desai talked to the brother of #Hathras gangrape victim and has assured the family of extending all possible help from the Commission. She also met the concerned DCP who apprised her of the details and the action taken by police in the matter".
