New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday handed over the case of Pakistani drones sent across the border into Punjab, to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further probe.
According to a senior home ministry official, "The NIA has re-registered the case filed by the Punjab police and the anti-terror probe agency reached Amritsar on Thursday to carry out further investigation."
NIA interrogation revealed that the terrorists had also thrown several parts of the drone into the UBDC canal near Jhabal in Punjab's Amritsar and security agencies have sealed the entire area where search operation was being carried out.
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure necessary action in the 'incidents' of Pakistan-origin drones being used for dropping arms in the state.
On September 22, the Punjab Police claimed to have busted a terror module of the revived Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), which was backed by a Pakistan and Germany based terror group that was conspiring for a series of terror strikes in Punjab and adjoining states.
Notably, last week, the Home Ministry had sought answers from the central agencies to know why such drone movement was not detected.
