Meet this 'Army' family in Karnataka

In the year 1977, one of the family members first joined the Indian army, which initiated a trend as young members followed the footsteps of their elders. In an undivided family consisting of 160 members in Karnataka's Belgaum, around 16 members are working in the Indian Army. Additionally, four youths are currently undergoing their army training and will soon be sent to the borders.

Belgaum: There is a family in a village named Inchal in Karnataka's Belgaum, which has as many as 16 people who have dedicated themselves to the service of the country, protecting the nation's sovereignty in all circumstances.

In the year 1977, Rudrappa, one of the family members first joined the Indian army, which initiated a trend as young members followed the footsteps of their elders.

In an undivided family consisting of 160 members, around 16 members are working in the Indian Army. Additionally, four youths are currently undergoing their army training and will soon be stationed at the borders.

Interestingly, Inchal, a small village with a population of 10,000 people, is known for sending the highest number of soldiers to the Indian army in the entire state.

Out of its entire population, around 600 villagers serve in the Indian army and the village has over 200 retired military personnel.

In an initiative to encourage the youth, the retired soldiers are playing a major role and have also formed an organisation that offers training to the youth who want to join the Indian army.

They offer physical training which is necessary to get selected for the service.

According to estimation, in the past few years, the Belgaum district alone has sent over 50,000 soldiers to the Indian armed forces.
