Gandhinagar: External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar files his nomination as Member of Parliament from Gujarat Rajya Sabha seat.
Along with Jaishankar, BJP candidate Jugalji Mathurji Thakor also filed nomination at the Gujarat legislative assembly.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and state BJP chief Jitu Vaghani were present as Jaishankar and Thakor submitted their nomination forms to the returning officer C B Pandya.
Given its strength in the Assembly, the BJP is set to win both the seats, especially as the election will be held separately as per the Election Commissions notification.
The Congress has fielded Gaurav Pandya and Chandrika Chudasama for the two Rajya Sabha seats.
Jaishankar, son of the late K Subrahmanyam, one of India's leading strategic analysts, was a key member of the Indian team which negotiated the landmark Indo-US nuclear deal.
MEA Jaishankar, who took charge of the ministry nearly 16 months after he retired as foreign secretary, is the first career diplomat to handle the key portfolio.
