MEA in touch with Iran over Indians onboard seized oil tanker

18 Indian sailors onboard British-flagged oil tanker was seized by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. The Ministry of External Affairs in its statement said, "We are ascertaining further details on the incident. Our mission is in touch with the Government of Iran to secure the early release and repatriation of Indian nationals.'

New Delhi: A day after Iran seized a British oil tanker from Strait of Hormuz comprising of 18 Indian nationals, India assured that it is in touch with Tehran administration for the release of the Indian nationals.


The Ministry of External Affairs in its statement said, "We are ascertaining further details on the incident. Our mission is in touch with the Government of Iran to secure the early release and repatriation of Indian nationals."

Tehran confirmed there are 18 Indian nationals among the 23 people on board the Stena Impero British oil tanker on Friday. The British vessel is at the Bandar Abbas port.


Iran claimed that it seized the vessel in the Strait of Hormuz after it collided with Iranian finishing boat. They also said that the British Vessel failed to respond to the boat's distress call.
