New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP are leaving no stone unturned to to claim the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi as they would not miss a single opportunity to profess their love and admiration towards his philosophy and beliefs.
Now, when the Union Government plans to celebrate 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, the BJP says Gandhi belongs to the whole nation and to all political parties.
"Mahatama Gandhi does not belong to a particular political party. He belongs to all. The way Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been putting his ideals into practice is for everyone to see," Sudesh Verma, party spokesperson told ETV Bharat here.
"'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' (cleanliness drive) across the country, Gandhi's thoughts and ideas on other matters of life and polity are being given priority by our government,” he said.
Modi, during his first tenure as prime minister, launched cleanliness drive on October 2, 2014 from Delhi and has been talking about usefulness of the simple yet very effective ideals of Gandhi, who played a major role to secure freedom from the Britishers.
In fact, it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who brought his party closer to Mahatma Gandhi, earlier the name of the mahatma would be chiefly associated with the grand old Congress party.
To mark 150th birth anniversary of the mahatma, the government has planned to celebrate it at a largest possible platform with schools, government offices and other institutions being asked to organise various programmes to take his ideals and thoughts to everyone in the country.
