Kolkata violence: BJP meets EC, demands immediate action against TMC

In the wake of clashes between the TMC and BJP supporters in Kolkata, the BJP met EC demanding strict action against the TMC government. It also demanded a ban on Mamata Banerjee from campaigning for Lok Sabha polls.

New Delhi: A BJP delegation today met the Election Commission in the national capital over the violence that took place during party chief Amit Shah’s roadshow in Kolkata and demanded immediate action against the TMC government whom the BJP accused of perpetrating the chaos.

Briefing media after the meeting, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the party has demanded the poll body to arrest “disturbing elements and history sheeters” and to bar Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from campaigning owing to today’s violent clashes.

Earlier in the day, clashes between TMC and BJP workers broke out during Amit Shah’s roadshow.
