Kerala: Homemaker Ancy Mathew grabs readers' attention with her unique narration style

Mappilapparambil Ancy Mathew, a homemaker who recently published her first book titled ‘Kurachu Daivangalum Kooduthal Manushyarum’, amazed people in Kerala with her unique narrative. In the past three years, Ancy has found a fresh vigour and took to serious creative writing with all support from her family, including her husband Mathew, her sons Shibu and Shijo and daughters in law Meghna and Berny.

Malappuram: An unassuming homemaker, Mappilapparambil Ancy Mathew, from Chaliyar Idivanna in Malappuram district of Kerala, is overwhelmed to see her book published at age of 62. Ancy, who had always shown interest in creative writing right from her childhood, finally got to see her work published only during the COVID times. She used to write poetry when she was in her 4th grade.

Ernakulam Vayanappura Publications published a compilation of Ancy’s 13 Malayalam short stories titled ‘Kurachu Daivangalum Kooduthal Manushyarum’ recently. Even during the COVID and regulations, Ancy’s short story compilation seems to receive a good response. The book is priced at Rs 90. Famous litterateur Mini Mohan has written the foreword to Ancy’s book.

Ancy’s stories and her unique style of narration makes her works different from other writers. As Ancy’s pen takes one through the various levels and segments of human life, the 88-page compilation is being liked by the readers.

Ancy, who originally hails from Nilambur, finished her schooling with the Government Manavedan School, Nilambur and went on for higher studies with the MES College Mambad. After marrying Mappilapparambil Mathew, from Idivanna, Ancy decided to be a homemaker however, she kept scribbling whatever lines came to her mind as little poems, story ideas and short stories and novelettes for many years.

In the past three years, Ancy has found a fresh vigour and took to serious creative writing with all support from her family, including her husband Mathew, her sons Shibu and Shijo and daughters in law Meghna and Berny.

A compilation of Ancy’s 84 poems was to be published and released first. A publisher at Thrissur has taken it up. However, it got delayed. It is expected to be released soon.

Ancy is currently working on a novel titled ‘Avakashikal’ on her Facebook page. The Novel which has completed 6 chapters has been getting an overwhelming response and is widely appreciated. Ancy Mathew says that it is the social media that was instrumental in her come back to the field of literature and creative writing. She continues to write stories and poems about human beings and their lives, with a new-found vigour at 62 and agility of an 18-year-old, thereby grabbing attention from her readers.
