Belagavi: Shrinivas Thanedar, a resident of Belagavi's Meerapur, has been elected to the Michigan House of Representatives, bringing laurels to Karnataka. Thanedar has been elected to Michigan House of Representatives with more than 90 per cent of votes.
Shrinivas was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives after defeating six opponents in the elections. 65-year-old Thanedar is a member of the Democratic party and he unsuccessfully contested the elections to the Governor's office in Michigan in 2018.
Early Life and Education:
Born and brought up in Belagavi, Thanedar is a lyricist, scientist and also a well-known businessman in America. He did his primary and higher secondary studies from the government school of Chintamanrao.
He obtained his Master's degree in Chemistry from Bombay University in 1977 and then moved to the United States in 1979. Thanedar obtained his PhD in Polymer Chemistry in 1982. From 1982 to 1984, he worked at the University of Michigan.

Shrinivas Thanedar joined as a banker at the age of 18 and he wanted to pursue an MSc degree with his work. However, this was not approved by the college principal and Other Staff. He also lost in job in an attempt to get the Masters degree but did not give up. He wrote and published “Hi Shrichi Ichcha”, a book in Marathi about his life’s challenges.
People of Belagavi have expressed happiness over his success and the district is beaming with pride.
