New Delhi: BJP national president JP Nadda, while praising the Essential Commodities Bill being discussed in Parliament, has termed the move as a farsighted initiative of the Central government for farmers' welfare.

He said that all the three Bills, one of which was tabled and passed in the Lok Sabha yesterday and is being discussed in the Rajya Sabha today, have been brought by the government to increase the prices of farmers’ produce at a rapid pace.

These three Bills will also be very beneficial to accelerating the pace of investment in the agriculture sector. At the same time, the BJP president said that the opposition to these Bill was unnecessary. Those who are opposing these Bills are somewhere anti-farmer.

Hitting out at the Congress directly, the BJP president said that the Congress is trying to put a brake on the development of farmers by opposing these Bills.

Praising his government, BJP president JP Nadda today said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government at the Centre is working for the welfare of farmers. He said that our dynamic Prime Minister worked for the welfare of farmers, poor, labourers and other oppressed sections of the society during his first tenure and is working for them in his second tenure as well.

"Prime Minister Modi has done a lot of work to mainstream these people by not only serving and empowering them but also standing by them with all his strength through thick and thin," Nadda said.

JP Nadda said that keeping in mind the interests of farmers, the Central government has brought three Bills in Parliament, the first of which is the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020. It was also discussed and passed in the Lok Sabha yesterday. Similarly, the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, which are being discussed in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha currently, are very far-sighted.

The BJP president said that these three Bills will not only ensure investment in the agriculture sector but will also facilitate a fast-paced increase in the rate of farm produce.

The BJP chief reiterated that the APMC would continue and the farmers will be free to choose the most profitable market according to their own choice. The farm contract would be applicable to the produce of the land and not to the land. The ownership of the land will remain with its owner.

Mr Nadda said: "When I am talking today, I am talking about our farmers. Three important bills have been tabled in the Lok Sabha for our farmers and all these Bills are connected to farmers. There was always a danger in contract farming that the tiller would become the owner of the land. Now, there will be a written agreement, which will be about the farm produce, and not the land."

Mounting a fierce attack on the Congress and the UPA, JP Nadda said the Congress party is opposing these legislations today, which reflects its double face as it was the UPA government which had taken out the fruits from the states out of the ambit of the APMC. In 2014 whatever the BJP had promised in its manifesto was being fulfilled by Prime Minister Modi led government.

These three Bills are going to give a real sense of freedom. These Bills are very revolutionary and will change the status of farmers. The Congress party, on one hand, writes in its manifesto that it will work for the welfare of farmers. On the other, the Congress party is opposing these Bills and also misleading the people. Farmers will get paid as per the MSP and the land will remain with its owner.

He said the Congress party is opposing the Bill today, which is nothing but its double face. It does politics in almost everything. Congress doesn’t know anything other than doing mere politics.
