Journalists protest against attack on woman colleague

After the attack on a woman journalist and a cameraman in Esplanade mall of Bhubaneswar by the mall staff, journalists staged a protest outside the mall. The journalist's equipment was also destroyed in the earlier attack.

Bhubaneswar: Journalists protested in front of Esplanade shopping mall here on Sunday demanding the arrest of the mall staff who allegedly abused and thrashed a woman journalist and a cameraperson on Saturday.

The woman journalist Swati Jena along with a cameraperson was allegedly attacked by employees of the shopping mall while doing a story on the illegal collection of parking fee in Bomikhal.

"Incident of an alleged attack on a media team has been reported. FIR is being registered in Saheed Nagar Police Station. We are securing all the visuals and will act strictly in accordance with the law," said Office of Police Commissioner.

The journalist said she and her cameraperson were attacked by the mall employees and equipment was also destroyed.

"They attacked me and the cameraperson, our equipment also got destroyed," Swati told.

Bhubaneswar: Today Journalists stage dharna in front of Esplanade shopping mall in Bhubaneswar demanding arrest of the mall staff who allegedly abused & thrashed a woman scribe and her cameraperson yesterday. 





Meanwhile the lady scribe, Swati Jena working for a web-channel was allegedly attacked when she had reportedly visited the mall to report on ‘illegal collection of parking fees by the authorities of the shopping mall in Rasgulgarh area of the Smart City’.





Some staff of the Esplanade shopping mall abused and attacked me and my camera-person when we had gone there to cover a story regarding illegal collection of parking fees,” said Jena.





Jena further alleged that the shopping mall staff, mostly security personnel, snatched and damaged their equipment. Based on the complaint field by Jena, Sahid Nagar police has registered a case and assured action on the basis of CCTV footage.
