India's COVID-19 recovery rate nears 74 pc, only 0.28 pc of active cases on ventilator support

India's COVID-19 recovery rate has surpassed the mark of 74 per cent on Thursday. According to the Union health ministry, 1.92 per cent are in ICU and 2.62 per cent on oxygen support. The country's case fatality rate has further declined to 1.90 per cent.

New Delhi: Recoveries among COVID-19 patients in the country surged to 20,96,664 on Thursday, pushing India's recovery rate to 73.91 per cent, while only 0.28 per cent people of 6,86,395 active cases are on ventilator support, the Union health ministry said.

Of the active cases of coronavirus infection, 1.92 per cent are in ICU and 2.62 per cent on oxygen support. The country's case fatality rate has further declined to 1.90 per cent, it said.

Recovery of 20,96,664 patients has been made possible because of effective implementation of the policy of testing aggressively, tracking comprehensively and treating efficiently, the ministry said in a statement.

In the last 24 hours, India conducted 9,18,470 COVID tests across the country taking the total number to 3.25 crore.

India's COVID tests per million population has also increased to 24,668. Rapid testing has also decreased the COVID positivity rate to 7.58 per cent from 8.95 per cent in the first week of August.

As many as 26 states and UTs have registered positivity rate less than the national average.

Meanwhile, the second serosurvey in Delhi to ascertain the presence of Covid-19 among the general population has revealed that 29.1 per cent population has antibodies against the deadly virus, reportedly originated from Wuhan province of China.

The survey was conducted by Delhi government with technical support of Maulana Azad Medical College.

During the survey, a total of 15,000 samples were collected from 11 districts. The survey that was conducted in the first week of August has suggested that 29.1 per cent between the age group of 28 to 32 years have developed antibodies against the deadly infection.

A previous serosurvey conducted in the last week of June had found that 23 per cent of the people tested has an exposure to the novel coronavirus whereas 20 per cent population in 11 districts have developed antibodies against Covid-19.
