India widens gap between recovered and active cases: WHO

In a report, the WHO said that India has one of the lowest COVID-19 cases per lakh population in the world and continues to widen the gap between recovered and active cases. India's cases per lakh population are 30.04 while the global average is more than its triple at 114.67. The US has 671.24 cases per lakh population while the metric for Germany, Spain and Brazil is 583.88, 526.22 and 489.42.

India widens gap between recovered and active cases: WHO

New Delhi: A World Health Organisation (WHO) report on Monday said that India has one of the lowest COVID-19 cases per lakh population in the world and continues to widen the gap between recovered and active cases.

The WHO Situation Report 153, shows that India has one of the lowest case in spite of its high population density.

"India's cases per lakh population are 30.04 while the global average is more than its triple at 114.67. The US has 671.24 cases per lakh population while the metric for Germany, Spain and Brazil is 583.88, 526.22 and 489.42," the WHO said.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan credited this low figure to its pro-active approach taken along with States and UTs for the containment of COVID-19.

Interestingly, India's COVID-19 recovery rate also stands at 55.77 percent. As many as 9440 COVID-19 patients have been cured in laat24 hours taking the total recovery number to 237195.

India at present has 174387 active Covid19 cases marking a huge difference of 62808 between recovered and active cases.

In a related development, Health Ministry has said that strict containment and focus on managing co-morbids aiding the recovery of COVID-19 patients in Punjab.

The Ministry said that apart from house to house survey, Punjab government has also ramped up the testing capacity 8000 tests per day.

It may be mentioned here that in order to restrict the spread of virus, Punjab has imposed restrictions on weekends and holidays, and strict enforcement of all protocols are being ensured through fines.

Meanwhile, the top three states and UTs including Maharastra, Delhi, Tanil Nadu has registered 132075, 59746 and 59377 COVID-19 cases till date.
