India to take part in crucial trilateral meets in G-20

The first trilateral meeting will take place between Japan, India and USA, where Prime Ministers Shinzo Abe, Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump are likely to discuss about the peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. They will also discuss about Beijing's growing influence in the South-China Sea.

New Delhi: India will participate in two important trilateral meetings with world leaders at the G20 summit in Japan's Osaka.

The first trilateral meeting will take place between Japan, India and USA, where Prime Ministers Shinzo Abe, Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump are likely to discuss about the peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. They will also discuss about Beijing's growing influence in the South-China Sea.

After this 20 minutes meeting, PM Modi and US President will hold the much anticipated bilateral meet.

US President had hit out at the Modi government and said that India's tariffs on US products were 'unacceptable'.

He tweeted: "I look forward to speaking with Prime Minister Modi about the fact that India, for years having put very high tariffs against the United States, just recently increased the tariffs even further. This is unacceptable and tariffs must be withdrawn.'

PM Modi appreciated Japan's contribution to the infrastructure projects in the North-East region during his bilateral meet with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe today.

He also expressed of forming Indo-Japan partnership for building disaster resilient infrastructure. PM hailed Japan's experience in the management of disasters.

Another trilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will take place here. The foundations of this meet were laid in Bishkek during the SCO summit.

According to sources at the MEA, the leaders are likely to discuss issues of mutual and utmost importance like terrorism, Afghanistan and enhancing regional cooperation.

Russia President Putin had already extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi of scheduled Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok in September this year.

This meet will go on for 20 minutes. Post which Prime Minister Modi and US President will hold much anticipated bilateral meet.

US President has already made his intentions clear through his tweet ahead of his bilateral engagement with Prime Minister Modi. He said, 'looking forward to speak with Prime Minister Modi about the fact that India, for years having put very high tariffs against the United States, just recently increased the tariffs even further. This is unacceptable and tariffs must be withdrawn.'

Meanwhile, during his bilateral meet with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe today, Prime Minister Modi appreciated his country's contribution in the infrastructure projects in the North-east region.
