Andhra Pradesh: 303 inmates and 15 staff of Kadapa jail contract COVID
As many as 303 prisons and 14 staff housed at the Kadapa Central Jail tested positive for COVID-19. Jail authorities have identified a separate building and converted it into a quarantine centre.
As all the positive patients are asymptomatic cases, and keeping in view the logistical inconveniences in shifting them to the State-run COVID hospital or a similar medical facility, it was decided to quarantine them on the jail premises.

BJP MP Srinivas Prasad tests COVID positive, CM's son Vijayendra in home quarantine
Bengaluru: BJP MP V Srinivas Prasad on Tuesday said he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Prasad, a former Minister, said he was following doctor's instruction and there was no reason to worry.
He has also requested all those who had come in contact with him during the last week to undergo tests and go into home quarantine. Prasad represents Chamarajanagara constituency.
Meanwhile, state BJP vice president and Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa's son B Y Vijayendra, who had met Prasad earlier in the day, said he was under home quarantine.
Wishing Prasad a speedy recovery, Vijayendra in a tweet said, "As I had come into his contact, I have taken all the precautionary measures, and I'm in-home quarantine. I request all those who were with me to take precautions."
Vijayendra was under home quarantine earlier this month too when his father and Chief Minister Yediyurappa had tested positive.

Positivity rate of COVID-19 has come down from 10.03% to 7.72%: Health Ministry
New Delhi: The Health Ministry on Tuesday said the positivity rate of COVID-19 has come down from 10.03 per cent to 7.72 per cent despite sustained level of testing. Addressing a press briefing, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan gave five major highlights of the past week.
"An important part is recovered patients are nearly 20 lakh which is 2.93 times of active cases," Bhushan said.
The total number of active cases is 6,73,166, while the total number of recovered cases is 19,77,779, he said.

70 COVID-19 deaths in one day in UP, worst ever
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh reported its worst single-day spike of 70 fatalities on Tuesday, pushing the COVID-19 death toll in the state to 2,585, a senior official said.
Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said the number of those who have been discharged from hospitals after recovery has reached 1,09,607.
The number of COVID-19 cases has reached 1,62,434 with 4,218 fresh cases in 24 hours.
The state has 50,242 cases of active infection, he said.
Prasad said there are 25,008 people who have opted for home isolation while 1,719 are taking treatment in private facilities and another 283 in others.
He said the government has issued an advertisement, urging private doctors to contribute in the "war against pandemic" by serving in L2 and L3 hospitals. The government will give honorarium and insurance cover among other facilities to those coming forward for it, he said.
He said special arrangements are being made for the coming session of the state legislature by setting up testing facilities for the legislators and their associates.
The government has also issued a separate phone number to facilitate those who are facing problems in getting themselves admitted to hospitals, he added.

Port Blair: At least 46 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, pushing the tally to 2,445, a senior official said on Tuesday.
One person succumbed to the infection, raising the death toll in the Union Territory to 29, he said.
As many as 1,325 people have recovered from the disease so far, 99 of them on Monday.
The archipelago currently has eight containment zones.
The number of active cases stands at 1,091.
A total of 71,010 samples have been examined for COVID-19 in the Union Territory thus far.

UP minister Atul Garg tests positive for COVID-19
Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Atul Garg, said on Tuesday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Garg requested all those who came in contact with him recently to get tested for the disease.
"On August 15, RTPCR test was done and I had tested negative. Yesterday, in the rapid test conducted at around 9 pm, I tested positive. People who came in contact with me from August 16 to August 18 should get themselves tested," he said in a tweet in Hindi.

Rajasthan MLA who attended Assembly session tests COVID positive
Rajasthan's Phalodi MLA Pabbaram Vishnoi, who attended the Vidhan Sabha session on Friday, has tested COVID-19 positive on Monday, confirmed officials.
His and his grandson's corona test report has come positive and hence they are now home quarantined. The MLA has appealed to all those who came in contact with him to get themselves tested.
Vishnoi had gone to attend the Assembly session on Friday and he met many legislators in the Assembly.

With 55K new cases, India crosses 27L-mark
India's Coronavirus tally crossed the 27-lakh mark on Tuesday with 55,079 fresh cases in 24 hours, while the toll climbed to 51,797 with 876 more fatalities, said the Health Ministry.
Out of the total 27,02,742 cases, recoveries have surged to 19,77,779 with 57,937 more people recuperating in the past 24 hours, taking the recovery rate to nearly 73.17 per cent. The actual caseload of the country is the active cases, which currently stands at 6,73,166.
The country had touched the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and added more than seven lakh cases in 11 days.

Arunachal Deputy CM tests negative for COVID-19
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein tested negative for COVID-19 in the second Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Tuesday.
Mein, who said he was under home isolation for the past five days, announced the test results himself through Twitter.
He also urged people of the state to follow COVID-19 guidelines and take steps to stay strong by working on their immunity.

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday said that as many as 8.97 lakh COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours across the country.
"A new peak of 8.97 lakh COVID-19 tests were done in the last 24 hours. Even with such a high level of testing, the positivity has remained low i.e. 8.81 per cent compared to the weekly national average i.e. 8.84 per cent," it tweeted.
"Aggressive TESTING leads to early identification and isolation of COVID-19 positive cases. This coupled with efficient clinical treatment brings the Fatality Rate down," the Ministry said in another tweet.
The Ministry also tweeted that "focused implementation of Centre-led strategies has ensured prompt identification, timely isolation and effective clinical treatment, leading to reduced Case Fatality Rate and added," that 30 States/UTs performed better than the national average.

"On August 15, RTPCR test was done and I had tested negative. Yesterday, in the rapid test conducted at around 9 pm, I tested positive. People who came in contact with me from August 16 to August 18 should get themselves tested," he said in a tweet in Hindi.

Rajasthan MLA who attended Assembly session tests COVID positive
Rajasthan's Phalodi MLA Pabbaram Vishnoi, who attended the Vidhan Sabha session on Friday, has tested COVID-19 positive on Monday, confirmed officials.
His and his grandson's corona test report has come positive and hence they are now home quarantined. The MLA has appealed to all those who came in contact with him to get themselves tested.
Vishnoi had gone to attend the Assembly session on Friday and he met many legislators in the Assembly.

With 55K new cases, India crosses 27L-mark
India's Coronavirus tally crossed the 27-lakh mark on Tuesday with 55,079 fresh cases in 24 hours, while the toll climbed to 51,797 with 876 more fatalities, said the Health Ministry.
Out of the total 27,02,742 cases, recoveries have surged to 19,77,779 with 57,937 more people recuperating in the past 24 hours, taking the recovery rate to nearly 73.17 per cent. The actual caseload of the country is the active cases, which currently stands at 6,73,166.
The country had touched the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and added more than seven lakh cases in 11 days.

Arunachal Deputy CM tests negative for COVID-19
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein tested negative for COVID-19 in the second Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Tuesday.
Mein, who said he was under home isolation for the past five days, announced the test results himself through Twitter.
He also urged people of the state to follow COVID-19 guidelines and take steps to stay strong by working on their immunity.

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday said that as many as 8.97 lakh COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours across the country.
"A new peak of 8.97 lakh COVID-19 tests were done in the last 24 hours. Even with such a high level of testing, the positivity has remained low i.e. 8.81 per cent compared to the weekly national average i.e. 8.84 per cent," it tweeted.
"Aggressive TESTING leads to early identification and isolation of COVID-19 positive cases. This coupled with efficient clinical treatment brings the Fatality Rate down," the Ministry said in another tweet.
The Ministry also tweeted that "focused implementation of Centre-led strategies has ensured prompt identification, timely isolation and effective clinical treatment, leading to reduced Case Fatality Rate and added," that 30 States/UTs performed better than the national average.
