India joins league of countries having Cooling Action Plan

Union Minister of Environment Harsh Vardhan released 'India Cooling Action' in order to provide an integrated approach towards cooling and to reduce emissions in the country. India is one of the first countries in the world to develop a comprehensive Cooling Action plan.

New Delhi: In order to provide an integrated approach towards cooling and to reduce emissions in the country, the Union Minister of Environment Harsh Vardhanon Friday had releasedan'IndiaCooling Action Plan' (ICAP). India is one of the first countries in the world to develop a comprehensive cooling action plan.

While addressing the event, the Union Minister said, "We can see results now. The mindset of the industry has changed. New air conditioners, refrigerators are being manufactured with new dimensions and new thoughts."

Last year, adraft of ICAP was released inOctober on 23rd 'WorldOzone Day'. Dr Harsh Vardhan said, "The goal of ICAP is to provide sustainable cooling and thermal comfort for all while securing environmental and socio-economic benefits for the society." The goal is being set to reduce the cooling demand across sectors by 20-25 percent and refrigerant demand by 25-30 percent by 2037-38.

"ICAP provides an integrated vision towards assessment of cooling requirements across sectors in the next 20 years, refrigerant transition and enhancing energy efficiency," he added.

A draft of ICAP was released in September, last year, on World Ozone Day. Dr Harsh Vardhan said, "The goal of ICAP is to provide sustainable cooling and thermal comfort for all while securing environmental and socio-economic benefits for the society." The goal is being set to reduce the cooling demand across sectors by 20-25 percent and refrigerant demand by 25-30 percent by 2037-38.


Conclusion:"ICAP provides an integrated vision towards assessment of cooling requirements across sectors in the next 20 years, refrigerant transition and enhancing energy efficiency," he added.
