"On Tuesday morning, hundreds of rioters set fire to the vehicles parked near my house. Hearing the noise, when we started running away with the family, a Hindu neighbour sheltered me and my family in his house. The armed men wearing masks came and set fire to slum dwellings and vehicles in different parts of the area," Salim said.

"We remained hidden in that Hindu family's home for about 12 hours, after which the Hindu family put tilak to all of my family members as well as wearing saffron clothes to make us look like Hindus. Later, we reached my friend's house in Mustafabad at around 11 PM with my family," he added.

Salim further said, "At the age of 58, Anwar was selling goat milk and he was survived by his 27-year-old married daughter."
