Dhanyakhali (West Bengal): A 25-year-old girl of Indian origin has been arrested in Dhaka, Bangladesh for her alleged links with Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
The girl has been identified as Pragya Debnath of Paschim Keshabpur village under Dhanyakhali police limits in West Bengal's Hooghly. Reportedly, she is accused of recruiting for the JMB.
When Pragya's father was asked about his daughter, he said that he did not even know that she had joined the JMB militant group.
Pragya's father, Pradeep Debnath said, "I had no contact with my daughter for the last four years. I did not even know that she had joined the JMB militant group under the name of Jannat Mohana. If she is a traitor then she must be punished."
"Pragya left home on the morning of September 24, 2016, and she never returned to the home. Suddenly, after a few months, she called and said that she had converted to Islam and staying in Bangladesh. Since then I do not have any contact with her. I do not know anything about her," he mother said.
During the interrogation, the police found out that the woman, Ayesha Jannat Mohana alias Pragya Debnath was originally a Hindu before being converted to Islam.
According to the police report, Ayesha was entrusted with the responsibility of securing funding for the terror outfit and Bangladesh Police’s Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) branch on Friday arrested a 25-year-old Indian girl from Sadarghat.
