Hours after Union Home Minister Amit Shah clarified he never pitched for imposition of Hindi, DMK president M K Stalin on Wednesday said the party's proposed protest on September 20 on the issue has been postponed.
Citing Shah's assertion that he has never asked for imposition of Hindi anywhere in the country, Stalin said the protest slated for September 20 has been postponed temporarily.
Talking to reporters here, the DMK chief said Shah has also opined that his view had been "wrongly understood" However, if Hindi was imposed the DMK will oppose it at all times, he warned.
"Our statewide protest against imposition of Hindi has been postponed after Union Minister Amit Shah has given his clarification on the matter. DMK we will continue to oppose Hindi imposition," DMK President MK Stalin said.

Seeking to put to rest the controversy over his remarks on Hindi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that he has never asked for imposition of Hindi anywhere in the country but advocated its use as the second language.
Shah said he has been repeatedly pitching for strengthening regional languages.
"I too come from a non-Hindi speaking state. I come from Gujarat where Gujarati is the language, not Hindi. One has to listen to my speech carefully. If someone wants to do politics, it is their choice," he said.

Slamming Union Home Minister Amit Shah's Hindi language pitch, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Wednesday said that Hindi is not the unifying force of India.
"We, in Tamil Nadu, will never accept the imposition of Hindi. Hindi is not the unifying force of this country. We will oppose the imposition of Hindi vociferously," he said.
He said that he will also participate in the protest organised by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on September 20 in Tamil Nadu.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam workers took out a protest in Vellore on Wednesday against the Central government over imposition of Hindi.
The protest at the Gudiyatham Railway station near Vellore saw party workers blackening the writing in Hindi on the boards even as they raised slogans against the BJP-led Union government and any move to impose Hindi forcefully.
Waving black flags the protesters raised slogans of "Don't need Hindi...We need only Tamil", "Don't impose Hindi..long live Tamil", etc.
