Heavy rains lash Bengaluru

The city continued to witness heavy rains throughout Tuesday night. BBMP dealing with waterlogging complaints. Many roads submerged in the city.

Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru on Wednesday as the city continued to witness heavy rains leaving many roads waterlogged throughout Tuesday night. BBMP control room officials said they attended to complaints from Sivananda Circle, Mehkri Circle, Kengeri, Agara, Halasuru, Nayandahalli, and Agara among other areas.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) reported 124.5 mm rainfall in Kengeri, 123.5 mm in RR Nagar, 115 mm in Lakkasandra and 101mm Gottikere. Vidyapith in the southern region witnessed 99 mm of rainfall.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) control rooms received complaints regarding fallen trees in Malleshwaram, J.P. Nagar and Hosakerehalli. They also dealt with complaints regarding waterlogging from low lying areas in Kengeri, Rajarajeshwarinagar and Gottigere. Sidheshwar and Soudarya layouts were waterlogged and BBMP using a pump to remove water. The compound wall in the Gurudatta layout has collapsed and will probably be repaired by the end of the day. Also, the RR Nagar's Meenakshi welfare pavilion and BEML layout are flooded with water and sludge. BBMP staff are working on removing the water.

Trees have fallen in many places, and the clearing of fallen trees on the second main road of Banashankari and Basavanagudi is on. Hosakerehalli Cross Main road to saw fallen trees. The fourth main road near the Sony World Signal in Koramangala was completely submerged last night and motorists had to struggle to traverse the road in the morning.

Two power poles were damaged at the Curly Street main road of Shantinagar, which connects to Koramangala. This caused the wires to fall on the road in dangerous conditions. Nilasandra main road in Koramangala too was inundated.
