Lucknow: Taking potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Alwar gangrape case, BSP chief Mayawati on Monday said the former did not know how to respect women as he 'left his own wife for political gains'.

Mayawati has been repeatedly attacking PM Modi over the case

Addressing a press conference here, Mayawati said, "Narendra Modi was silent on the Alwar gangrape case. He is trying to play dirty politics over it, so that his party can benefit in the elections. It is extremely shameful. How can he respect women when he has left his own wife for political gains?"

This comes just a day after Mayawati alleged that Modi is doing 'dirty politics' over the case. The former UP chief minister also assured of action by her party in the matter. Modi countered by saying taht she is 'shedding crocodile tears by making statements'.

Modi, at a rally in Kushinagar, urged Mayawati to withdraw support from the Rajasthan government- accused by both the Prime Minister and the BSP supremo of brushing aside the gang-rape case for political gains.

"Behenji you will have to answer, why didn't you withdraw support to Rajasthan's Congress government after a daughter was gang-raped in the state? You are shedding crocodile tears by only making statements," Modi said during the campaign.
