Hyderabad: The assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, counting for which is currently underway, witnessed a wide range of offbeat candidates jumping into the electoral fray.
Here is a look at how each of these candidates performed:
SONALI PHOGAT (HARYANA - LOST)
TikTok sensation Sonali Phogat, who was contesting from Haryana's Adampur Constituency on a BJP ticket, lost to senior Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi. Bishnoi is a three-time legislator from the constituency and also the son of former chief minister late Bhajan Lal.
YOGESHWAR DUTT (HARYANA - LOST)
Olympic gold medallist Yogeshwar Dutt, who was the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate from Haryana's Baroda, lost to Congress candidate Sri Krishan Hooda, who is the two-time sitting MLA from the constituency.
AJAZ KHAN AND GEETA GAWLI (MAHARASHTRA - TRAILING)
In Mumbai's Byculla seat, 'Bigg Boss' fame actor Ajaz Khan and Geeta Gawli, daughter of jailed underworld don Arun Gawli, are both currently trailing. While Khan contested as an independent candidate, Gawli contested for the Akhil Bharatiya Sena and was supported by Prakash Ambedkar's VBA.
ABHIJEET BICHUKALE (MAHARASHTRA - LOST)
Marathi 'Bigg Boss' participant Abhijeet Bichukale lost to Shiv Sena youth leader Aaditya Thackeray from Mumbai's Worli.
DEEPALI SAYYAD (MAHARASHTRA - LOST)
Marathi actress Deepali, who was also unsuccessful in the Lok Sabha polls on an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket, switched to the Shiv Sena and contested from the Mumbra-Kalwa seat. The move did not bear fruit as she lost to NCP's Jitendra Ahwad, a close aide of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
