Four militants killed in separate gunfights in Jammu and Kashmir

At least four unidentified militants were killed in two separate encounter that broke out between security forces and militants. An official said that the identity and group affiliation of the slain militants is being ascertained adding one M4 Rifle and one Pistol were recovered.

Srinagar: Four unidentified militants were killed by security forces on Saturday during two separate gunfights in south Kashmir, an official said. One of the gunfights took place in Kulgam district's Chingam area where two militants were killed after a nightlong search operation.

"Based on inputs about the presence of militants in the area, security forces launched a cordon and search operation on Friday night. The operation is now over," a police official said, adding that the search operation turned into a gunfight after militants fired upon a security forces party, who retaliated.

The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants is being ascertained, he added. One M4 Rifle and one Pistol were recovered.

The other gunfight took place in Dadura village in South Kashmir's Pulwama at around noon. According to the police, two militants were killed in a brief exchange of firing. However, their identity couldn't be ascertained yet.

Meanwhile, searches are still going on at gunfight site.

Earlier, a joint team of Police and Army had launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Dadura. As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off a gunfight.

On October 7, three militants were killed by the security forces during a gunfight in the Sugan Zainapora area of Shopian district. In a similar incident, two militants were killed in the Samboora area of Awantipora district on September 27.
