Elaborating the importance of the achievement, former ISRO scientist said, "NASA's Ranger program which was a series of unmanned space missions whose objective was to obtain the first close-up images of the surface of the Moon was successful in its seventh attempt."

"This was part of the pre-sequence mode which was well planned and accurately calculated," explained Ahmed.

Former ISRO scientist, further elaborated, "Landing requires special sequences and after its soft landing the Vikram lander will send a picture as a confirmation. However, it will send real data and achieve the goals set for it, only after two months from landing."

After Russia, US and China, the mission will make India the fourth country to soft-land a rover on the lunar surface.
