Six dead in gas cylinder blast in Bihar's Purnea

A total of six persons died after a gas cylinder blast on Monday night in Bihar's Purnea district. While one child died on the spot, five others, including a woman, died at the hospital. The incident has triggered panic in the area.

Purnea: Six persons, including five children and a woman, died in a gas cylinder blast at a house in Bihar's Purnia district today, police said.

The incident happened when the Virendra Yadav's family were busy cooking food for their dinner on Monday night which comes under Khapra Panchayat of Biasi block.

According to reports, one child died at the incident spot while five others succumbed to severe injuries at the hospital. Virendra is still undergoing treatment and but his condition is critical.

"Five children died today morning. They suffered severe injuries. Two persons are undergoing treatment but their condition is not stable," a doctor, who is attended the patients, said earlier.

Talking to reporters, Vikas Kumar, a relative of Yadav said, "Five children died following a cylinder blast. They died when they were on their way to Bhagalpur for treatment. Virendra is in Bhagalpur and is undergoing treatment."

A pal of gloom descended upon the family members of Virendra Yadav and they rushed to Purnia after learning about the incident.

Naval Kishore Yadav, ASI, earlier said, "Five to six people were injured in a cylinder blast. One victim has been taken to Bhagalpur for further treatment."

The age group of the deceased children is between two to five years. "All the injured people were taken to a local hospital and locals doused the flames," locals said.

"Yadav and his family were preparing for dinner when the incident happened. The injured people were immediately taken to a local hospital for medical attention. But they were referred to Sadar hospital as their condition worsened," they added.
