Mumbai/Jalgaon (Maharashtra): For the past few days, there have been rumours that BJP leader and former State minister Eknath Khadse will join the Nationalist Congress Party. Khadse has tendered his resignation to the State BJP leadership on Thursday.
Khadse is expected to join the Nationalist Congress Party on Friday (October 23) at 2 pm, NCP state president Jayant Patil declared at a press conference earlier this day. It said that his party entry ceremony will be held in the presence of NCP President Sharad Pawar in Mumbai.
Why was Khadse upset?
After the coalition government came to power in 2014, Khadse was excluded from the 2019 election process over his alleged involvement in a land scam.
The contribution made by Eknath Khadse for the party is significant. Eknath Khadse, Gopinath Munde and Pramod Mahajan had worked tirelessly for the growth of BJP in Maharashtra. However, it was Khadse who finally had to try to get a ticket. However, the BJP once again agreed to give a ticket to Khadse but it did not materialise. He repeatedly questioned the leadership's decision to sideline him. However, the BJP led by Devendra Fadnavis managed to keep him away.
Like Khadse, Vinod Tawde too was not given a ticket by the party. Later, at a meeting organised by Pankaja Munde in Parli, Khadse targeted Devendra Fadnavis and once again raised the banner of rebellion against the party. BJP also cut his address in the Legislative Council elections. At that time, he attacked the BJP leaders in the upper belt. Chandrakant Patil's contribution and seniority in the party was a source of frustration. He also said that his way was open many times. Khadse was upset with the BJP for his contribution to the party and the treatment he was getting. It was a fact that NCP was well aware of.
Entry in NCP in talks since the assembly elections
There have been talks about Khadse joining the NCP for quite some time now. However, Gopichand Padalkar got a chance and Khadse's hopes were dashed again. After repeated defections to the party, Khadse finally decided to leave the BJP and resigned on October 21. He will join the NCP on Friday. Many people want to come with Eknath Khadse, but it is not appropriate to hold elections in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. Corona. Jayant Patil had informed that those who have lost their hopes in BJP will join NCP.
Retweeted tweet criticizing PM Modi
Eknath Khadse's entry into the NCP has been hotly debated since this morning. While something is happening every day in this regard, today the state president of NCP Jayant Patil had made a quote criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi from his Twitter account. BJP leader Eknath Khadse retweeted the same tweet of Jayant Patil. Since then rumours about Khadse's rebellion was rife. It was said that in a way, he was giving an indirect signal that he was leaving the BJP. However, that tweet was later deleted.
The BJP state president said his departure would hurt the party
"Natha Bhau's resignation reached me some time ago. No matter how angry Nathabhau was, he did not think that he would take this step. But, certain things cannot be avoided. We wanted him to stay in the party and lead, but it did not happen. He should go there and do a good job, I wish him well," said BJP state president Chandrakant Patil.
"I kept telling them to sit down and talk to Fadnavis. But, it did not happen. Since he and I have good communication, I was discussing matters with them, repeatedly asking them to sit together. I was trying to find a way by discussing it. However, in the end, some attempts are cured but they fail. His departure will hurt the party," Patil added.
