ETV Bharat contacted the top officials of Chandigarh and told them about the problems of migrant workers, after which the administrative authorities sought the details of all these migrants and came to know about the problems.

Chandigarh: Thousands of migrant workers who have been walking back to their homes amid coronavirus lockdown are facing problems due to lack of adequate resources on their way. In such a gloomy situation, several generous people are helping them by providing food and water.

ETV Bharat had prominently displayed the plight of migrant workers, after which the district administrations have taken such steps for them.

In the wake of the lockdown, as many as 20 migrant labourers were walking despite harsh summer in order to reach to Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh from Chandigarh.

ETV Bharat found a group of 20-members including children and women were walking towards the highway. On being asked, all of them said that they lost their jobs after the lockdown and had no money to support their families.

"We had registered online to go to our home. The message came from the administration that we can go to Hardoi. When reached the station, the police drove us away from the station. So we are walking on foot," a worker said.

On being informed about this incident, ETV Bharat's Chandigarh team helped these migrants.

ETV Bharat's News Coordinator of Chandigarh, Bhupendra Jishtu contacted the top officials of Chandigarh and told them about the problems of these people. After which the administrative authorities sought the details of all these migrants and came to know about the problems.

The officials understood the problems of the people and shortly after, a bus was sent on the spot. From where people were taken to their places. The migrant labourers thanked ETV Bharat for this help.

Chandigarh administration officials have also assured ETV Bharat that all facilities will be provided to every people and in the next one or two days, full arrangements will be made to send all migrant labourers by train.

Notably, several migrant labourers are walking thousands of kilometres to their native places after failing to find means of transport. The nationwide lockdown in response to COVID 19 has fatally affected labourers and they are facing many problems.
