New Delhi: Amid corona-induced lockdown, a lot of people have been rendered jobless and are left with no home. The pandemic has reduced people to its penury forcing them to take shelter on footpaths and roads. One such example is an elderly couple, hailing from Bareilly, who have been staying on the footpath for last few days.
The couple came to Delhi with a ray of hope to get treatment in All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS). Having no place to stay, the couple is now forced to take shelter on the footpath.
In an interaction with ETV Bharat, Jagdish told, "My wife is suffering from heart disease. We came before lockdown to take medicines but now the stock is exhausted. Doctors have told us to wait till Monday to get the treatment."
He added, "We have nowhere to go and hence, we are staying on footpath. We are facing a lot of difficulties."
It is to be noted that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier stated that state govt will arrange food and basic facilities for the poor and needy.
The active cases of Covid-19 in Delhi stands at 14456 and state has recorded 650 deaths till date. A total of 9898 patients have been cured and discharged, says the Health Ministry.
