Kumar accused the Congress party of having a past record of 'promising the moon' to win elections. The Election Commission believes that the remarks made by Rajeev Kumar violates the 'model code of conduct', as he has been a part of "bureaucratic executive".

Kumar in his tweets said, "True to its past record of promising the moon to win elections, Congress President announces a scheme that will burst fiscal discipline, create strong incentives against work and which will never be implemented."

"Congress party promised Garibi Hatao in 1971, OROP in 2008, food security in 2013 to win elections, but couldn't fulfil any of those. The same unfortunate fate awaits the populist and opportunistic promise of Minimum Income Guarantee," he added.

The Congress party also slammed Rajiv Kumar for marking remarks against Nyuntam Aay Yojna. Over these remarks, Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala called NITI Aayog as "Rajneeti Aayog". He attacked Kumar by saying that he should run the organization from BJP office and should also contest elections.
