New Delhi: In an attempt to mitigate the crisis faced by the poor and the stranded migrant labourers in various parts of the national capital, the Delhi Police in collaboration with several NGO's are doing their bit to help people at their hour of crisis.

The Delhi Police has designated personnel to manage the collection and distribution of cooked food in districts across the capital.

Under the guidance of Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, Robin Hibu, food and essential ration items are being distributed by the police personnel among a vulnerable section of northeastern citizens who are facing difficulties in Munirka, Kishangarh, North Delhi and Gurgaon.

"There are two NGO's including Northeast Chamber of Commerce and helping hands who are assisting us. Every day, districts are distributing dry ration and we are sending out rations for who are deprived of ration in Delhi from our unit. They either reach out to us through 100, through NGO's or Police officers," Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, Robin Hibu told ETV Bharat.

"Helping hand and NECC are receiving the SOS calls. We collect the list given by the NGO and accordingly distribute it. This is a humanitarian initiative undertaken by the Delhi Police to reach out to citizens who are in distress apart from our police," Hibu added.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Anil Mittal, Additional PRO, Delhi Police said: "The food delivery network established in all 15 districts with the involvement of nearly 400 NGOs, facilitated by Delhi Police has led to the provision of meals and food packets at more than 250 locations which enabled feeding nearly 2,11,483 persons and provide dry ration to 1258 persons."

"We have distributed food to nearly 4000 beneficiaries from the northeast in the last three days. Many individuals, community leaders are coming forward to contribute food, money and other essentials," a volunteer said.

It is worth noting that the Delhi police has built a partnership with major entities to ensure regular supply of dry ration. 'FEED INDIA' provided 250 kits containing rice, atta, pulses, salt, potatoes and cooking oil which was distributed to all the needy individuals. Whereas, active participation of a group of young professionals running a campaign under '50 meal pack challenge' has also led to the facilitation of distribution of 400 dry ration kits.
