Covid-19 scare: Over 2 lakh students study in top-15 affected nations

The global virus outbreak has severely hit states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Data of the Health Ministry reveals that there are 2,83,250 Indian students who are studying in top 15 covid-19 affected countries and the government is taking all possible steps to evacuate these students at the earliest.

New Delhi: With the deadly coronavirus gripping the country, at least 151 positive cases have been confirmed taking the death toll to three. Fresh cases have been reported from Mahatrashtra, Telangana, Kerala and Kashmir and seeing the outbreak CBSE, NIOS, & University examinations are rescheduled and postponed till 31st March.

The new date for JEE Main exam will also be announced on 31st March, after assessing the situation. States are witnessing lockdown situation and all schools and colleges have already been closed while swimming pools, gyms, cinema halls and multiplexes have been ordered to remain shut in the wake of the pandemic.

Going by the data of the Ministry of External Affairs 2018, around 7,52,725 Indian students are studying in 90 foreign countries. There are 283250 Indian students who are studying in top 15 covid-19 affected countries, reveals ministry data.

Taking precautionary measures in regard, the government has brought back students from Wuhan, the epicenter of Covid-19, and other countries like Iran and Italy. However, much has to be done by the government to evacuate all the students as soon as possible as parents are worried about their safety.

The global death toll from the pandemic topped 8,000 on Wednesday and the number of global infections shot past 200,000. The deadly virus, believed to have been originated from Wuhan from the sea food market, considered to the centre of the outbreak.

After China, Italy and Iran remain the worst affected countries with the former recording 425 deaths in 24 hours.
