Hyderabad: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called out the Centre for responding inappropriately to the pandemic on Thursday. In a strongly-worded statement, the national body of doctors has condemned the series of reforms in medical education the Centre has pushed recently. The IMA has alleged that concerns of the profession and people were brushed aside while enacting the National Medical Council Act 2019. Meanwhile, India's Covid-19 tally reaches 63-lakh mark with a spike of 86,821 new cases & 1,181 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
Delhi
Over 25 per cent of the people have developed antibodies to COVID-19 in Delhi according to a serosurvey report, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Thursday. "According to the serosurvey report submitted yesterday, 25.1 per cent of the patients who have now recovered have developed antibodies to COVID-19 in Delhi. In the last survey, it was 28.7 per cent. Next serosurvey will start within 15 days," Jain told reporters.
Maharashtra
Maharashtra's Covid-19 deaths and cases dropped but the case tally shot above 14 lakh and the death toll crossed 37,000, while the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) remained grim with growing cases, health officials said here on Thursday. The state witnessed 394 deaths on Thursday, lower than the peak of 515 and the death toll zoomed past 37,000, from 36,662 to 37,056 now. The state recorded 16,476 new patients - though lower than the peak single-day tally of 24,886 - pushing up the total from 13,84,446 to 14,00,922 cases till date. In a relief, the recovery rate also shot up - from 78.61 per cent to 78.84 per cent - while the current mortality (death) rate stood at 2.65 per cent on Thursday.
Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh reported 6,751 new COVID-19 cases and 41 deaths in the last 24 hours, the state health department informed on Thursday. With these new cases, the total number of positive cases has surged to 7,00,235, including 57,858 active cases. As many as 6,36,508 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the state, while 5,869 have succumbed to the virus.
Punjab
Strict monitoring of asymptomatic and mild symptomatic Covid patients in home isolation will begin in Punjab from Friday, with the state government engaging a consortium of professional home healthcare companies for their regular monitoring. This was disclosed by an official spokesperson after a Covid video review by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday afternoon. Health Secretary Hussan Lal informed the meeting that Health Vista Private Limited has been hired for the purpose, and their professional health care tele-callers will monitor, on a daily basis, the health of Covid patients in home isolation for less than 10 days.
Uttar Pradesh
In view of the rising coronavirus cases, the Agra district administration has further decided to keep religious places and educational institutions shut till October 15. School and college management said that normal classes would commence from October 1. Priests of Hindu temples were equally disappointed as special functions for the Purushottam Maas (an extra month every three years in the Hindu calendar considered auspicious for conducting worship and rituals) will not be allowed.
Telangana
Telangana on Thursday crossed 30 lakh mark in Covid-19 testing while the state continued to see more recoveries than new positive cases. With 54,443 tests during the last 24 hours, the state has so far conducted 30,50,444 tests. However, the health authorities provided no details as to how many of these are RT PCR and Rapid Antigen tests, health officials said on Thursday. Telangana, which had come under criticism from different quarters for poor testing rate, ramped up the same over the last two months by expanding the testing infrastructure.
Odisha
As many as 3,615 new COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths have been reported in Odisha on Wednesday, with the total number of recoveries going up to 4, 219, the state health department reported. With this, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus has gone up to 2,22,734. While 1,85,700 patients have recovered, 36,122 cases remain active and 859 have succumbed to the pandemic.
