TN's COVID-19 death toll breaches 10 K mark
Chennai: Tamil Nadu's COVID-19 death toll on Thursday crossed the 10,000 mark with 68 more fatalities, while the case tally touched 6,40,943 with 5,088 fresh infections.
The 10,052 deaths as on date include Chennai''s 3,351, Chengelpet 584, Tiruvallur 573, Coimbatore 479, Madurai 395, Salem 365, Kancheepuram 341, a health department bulletin said, adding the remainder was spread across Tamil Nadu.
With more recoveries (5,718) than fresh cases, the number of those cured increased to 5,86,454 and the active cases were 44,437, it said.
As many as 87,341 samples were tested (RT-PCR) and cumulatively 80,44,447 specimens have so far been examined in 190 COVID labs in the state. Over a span of three months, Tamil Nadu has added 8,352 deaths and the death toll stood at 1,700 on July 8 and as on June 8 and May 8, the fatalities were 286 and 40 respectively.
A 31-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were among the 68 fatalities today and in total 60 had co-morbidities and eight no chronic illnesses.

696 new COVID-19 cases in J-K, nine more die
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 696 fresh COVID-19 cases, while nine more deaths took place in the past 24 hours, taking the number of cases to 81,793 and the death toll to 1,291 on Thursday, officials said.
Of the new cases, 276 were registered in Jammu and 420 in the Kashmir valley, the officials said.
Srinagar district reported a maximum of 186 fresh COVID-19 cases, followed by 89 in Jammu district, they said.
The Union Territory has 11,482 active cases of the novel coronavirus, while 69,020 patients have recovered from the infection so far, the officials said.
Seven of the new fatalities linked to COVID-19 were recorded in Jammu and two in the valley, they said.

New Delhi: With 2,726 fresh cases, Delhi's COVID-19 tally crossed the three-lakh mark on Thursday, while the death toll due to the disease mounted to 5,653 with 37 fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours.
According to a health bulletin issued by the Delhi government, 53,322 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
The case tally stands at 3,00,833 in the national capital, including 2,72,948 patients who have either been discharged or have migrated or recovered.

3,376 fresh COVID-19 cases in UP; 45 more die
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh recorded 3,376 new COVID-19 cases taking the infection tally to 4,27,459 on Thursday, while 45 coronavirus fatalities pushed the state’s death toll to 6,245, a health bulletin said.
Lucknow reported the maximum fresh cases at 403, followed by 189 each in Prayagraj and Ghaziabad and 180 in Gorakhpur, among other districts, it said.
According to Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Navneet Sehgal, 3,690 more COVID-19 patients were discharged from different hospitals after they recovered from the infection, and the total number recoveries in the state now stands at 3,78,662.
The recovery rate of Uttar Pradesh is now over 88 per cent, he added.

35 states/UTs conducting more than 140 COVID-19 tests/day/million population; positivity rate at 8.19%: Govt
Thirty-five states and Union territories in the country are performing more than 140 COVID-19 tests per day per million population, while 22 states and UTs have COVID-19 positivity rate less than the national average, the health ministry said on Thursday.
The cumulative positivity rate stands at 8.19 per cent, it said.
The national average of COVID-19 tests per day per million population is 865, the ministry said, asserting that the country has demonstrated an exponential increase in the COVID-19 testing infrastructure since January 2020.
"As evidence has revealed, higher number of testing on a sustained basis has aided in bringing down the positivity rate. The sharp decline in national cumulative positivity rate has demonstrated that the rate of spread of infection is being contained," the ministry underlined.

Odisha reports 3,144 new COVID-19 cases, 16 fresh fatalities
Odisha's COVID-19 tally mounted to 2,44,142 on Thursday as 3,144 more people, including a ruling BJD MLA, tested positive for the infection,
while 16 fresh fatalities pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 974, a health official said.
As many as 1,825 new cases were reported in quarantine centres, while 1,319 fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, he said.
Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, the legislator of Mahakalpada seat in Kendrapara district, is among the new patients, the official said.

Maha: 1,857 new COVID-19 cases in Thane, 43 more deaths
Thane district in Maharashtra has added 1,857 new COVID-19 cases, taking its tally to 1,85,799, an official said on Thursday.
The district also reported 43 deaths due to the viral infection on Wednesday, raising its toll to 4,687, he said.
On Wednesday, Thane city reported 414 new COVID-19 cases, followed by Kalyan-389, Navi Mumbai-356 and Mira Bhayander-223. The remaining cases were detected in other parts of the district, the official said.

As many as 82 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths have been reported in Ladakh, taking the total number of active cases in the union territory to 1,228, the health department informed on Thursday.
Leh registered 74 positive cases while eight cases and the two deaths were reported from Kargil.
The death toll in the UT stands at 63, with 26 fatalities reported from Leh and 37 from Kargil.

Puducherry logs 386 new COVID-19 cases, tally rises to 30,539
Puducherry on Thursday reported 386 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the overall tally in the union territory to 30,539.
Five more patients including two women died during the last 24 hours ending 10 am today, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release.
While two patients belonging to the Puducherry region died in hospitals here, the remaining succumbed at the Government GH in Karaikal region, he added.
No death was reported in Mahe and Yanam regions, he said.

Telangana adds 1,896 new COVID-19 cases; 12 deaths push toll to 1,201
Telangana reported 1,896 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally of infections to 2,06,644, while the death toll rose to 1,201 with 12 more fatalities, a state government bulletin said on Thursday.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) registered 294 out of the 1,896 fresh cases, followed by Rangareddy (211), Medchal Malkajgiri (154), Nalgonda (126), Siddipet (100) and other districts, it said, providing data as of 8 pm on October 7.

With a spike of 78,524 new cases and 971 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 68-lakh mark on Thursday, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
The COVID-19 count in the country stands at 68,35,655 including 9,02,425 active cases and 58,27,704 cured and discharged or migrated cases.
As per the MoHFW, with 971 deaths the toll due to the disease has now reached 1,05,526 in the country.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 8,34,65,975 samples have been tested up to October 7 for COVID-19 in the country. Out of these 11,94,321 samples were tested on Wednesday.

23 new cases push COVID-19 tally of Andamans to 3,935
The COVID-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 3,935 on Thursday as 23 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.
Ten new patients have travel history, while 13 fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, he said.
Eighteen more people have been cured of the disease, the official said.

As per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India on October 8 reported a single-day spike of 78,524 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.
Mizoram has reported 2 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally of people infected with the virus here to 2,150, said the state government on Thursday.
The total COVID-19 count includes 231 active cases and 1,919 discharges.
The state has not witnessed any fatality from the virus to date.

Puducherry logs 386 new COVID-19 cases, tally rises to 30,539
Puducherry on Thursday reported 386 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the overall tally in the union territory to 30,539.
Five more patients including two women died during the last 24 hours ending 10 am today, Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar said in a release.
While two patients belonging to the Puducherry region died in hospitals here, the remaining succumbed at the Government GH in Karaikal region, he added.
No death was reported in Mahe and Yanam regions, he said.

Telangana adds 1,896 new COVID-19 cases; 12 deaths push toll to 1,201
Telangana reported 1,896 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally of infections to 2,06,644, while the death toll rose to 1,201 with 12 more fatalities, a state government bulletin said on Thursday.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) registered 294 out of the 1,896 fresh cases, followed by Rangareddy (211), Medchal Malkajgiri (154), Nalgonda (126), Siddipet (100) and other districts, it said, providing data as of 8 pm on October 7.

With spike of 78,524 cases, India's COVID-19 tally crosses 68-lakh mark
With a spike of 78,524 new cases and 971 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 68-lakh mark on Thursday, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
The COVID-19 count in the country stands at 68,35,655 including 9,02,425 active cases and 58,27,704 cured and discharged or migrated cases.
As per the MoHFW, with 971 deaths the toll due to the disease has now reached 1,05,526 in the country.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 8,34,65,975 samples have been tested up to October 7 for COVID-19 in the country. Out of these 11,94,321 samples were tested on Wednesday.

With over 75,000 people recovering from COVID-19 every day in India, the country's recoveries are 6.3 times more than active cases of coronavirus, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday (MoHFW).
The country has witnessed an exponential rise in the number of COVID-19 recoveries from 50,000 recoveries in May to over 57 lakh in October.

23 new cases push COVID-19 tally of Andamans to 3,935
The COVID-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 3,935 on Thursday as 23 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.
Ten new patients have travel history, while 13 fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, he said.
Eighteen more people have been cured of the disease, the official said.

Tripura reports 214 new COVID-19 cases, 3 fresh fatalities
Tripura's COVID-19 tally rose to 27,759 on Thursday as 214 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.
Three more patients succumbed to the infection, pushing the northeastern state's coronavirus death toll to 301, he said.
West Tripura district, under which Agartala falls, has reported 162 coronavirus deaths so far, the official said.

Jharkhand reports 829 new COVID-19 cases, 10 fresh fatalities
Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally rose to 89,702 on Thursday as 829 more people tested positive for the
infection, a health official said.
Ten more patients succumbed to the infection, taking the state's coronavirus death toll to 767, he said.

As per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India on October 8 reported a single-day spike of 78,524 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.
Mizoram has reported 2 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally of people infected with the virus here to 2,150, said the state government on Thursday.
The total COVID-19 count includes 231 active cases and 1,919 discharges.
The state has not witnessed any fatality from the virus to date.
