Puducherry adds 108 fresh COVID-19 cases, tally rises to 33,247

Puducherry on Monday reported 108 new coronavirus cases taking the overall tally in the union territory to 33,247.

A 58-year old woman from the Puducherry region succumbed to the infection during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM today taking the toll to 575, the Department of Health and Family Welfare said in a release.

The 108 fresh cases were reported at the end of the examination of 2,533 samples, it said, adding that 230 patients were discharged during the 24 hours from hospitals after recovery.

The overall infection tally stood at 33,247 (after transfer of 14 cases to Tamil Nadu), the bulletin said, adding there were 4,152 active cases.

As many as 28,520 patients were treated and discharged so far.

Fatality and recovery rates were 1.73 per cent and 85.78 per cent respectively.

The release said that 2.67 lakh samples had been tested so far and it was found that 2.30 lakh samples were negative and the result of the examination of remaining samples was awaited.

The only patient who died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours had complaints of diabetes and kidney disease, the release said.

Of the 108 fresh cases, the Puducherry region had 95 followed by Karaikal (8), Yanam (4) and Mahe (1).

Jharkhand reports 385 new COVID-19 cases, 7 deaths

Seven more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Jharkhand, raising the toll to 839, while 385 fresh cases pushed the tally to 96,352, a health department official said on Monday.

Three deaths were recorded in Ranchi and one each in Palamu, Koderma, Dhanbad and Deoghar.

Of the 385 new cases, 198 were reported from Ranchi, 23 from Bokaro, and 20 from East Singhbhum.

Jharkhand currently has 6,502 active cases, while 89,011 have recovered so far.

As many as 16,638 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the state on Sunday.

Single-day recoveries surpass fresh cases in Arunachal
The number of COVID-19 recoveries in Arunachal Pradesh surpassed fresh cases on Monday, with 237 people recuperating from the disease, even as 55 new infections pushed the caseload in the northeast state to 13,406, a senior official said.

Barring 15, all new patients are asymptomatic and have been shifted to COVID care centres, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Of the 55 fresh cases, 25 were reported from the Capital Complex region, six each from West Siang and Upper Siang and three from Changlang.

Two cases each were recorded in Lower Dibang Valley, West Kameng, Tirap and Tawang and one each from Shi-Yomi, Namsai, Lohit, Longding, East Kameng, Siang and East Siang.

"Two state police personnel from Changlang district are among the new patients, the SSO said.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has 2,824 active cases, while 30 people have succumbed to the infection.

The number of those cured rose to 10,552, with the recovery rate now standing at 78.71 per cent.

The Capital Complex region -- comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas -- has the highest number of active cases at 1,406, followed by West Siang at 312, East Siang at 144, Changlang at 139, Lohit (111) and Tirap (102), Dr Jampa said.

As many as 2,93,164 samples were examined for COVID-19 so far, including 1,289 on Sunday, he added.

Maha: 120 cases in Aurangabad

The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district rose to 36,576 after 120 more people tested positive for the viral infection, an official said on Monday.

Eight deaths due to COVID-19 were also reported in the district on Sunday, taking the toll to 1,034, he said.

Out of the 120 fresh cases, 40 were reported from Aurangabad city, 53 from rural areas and 27 were detected by mobile swab collection teams, the official said.

On Sunday, 234 patients were discharged after recovery, he said.

As of now, there are 1,948 active COVID-19 cases in the district, while 33,594 patients have been discharged after recovery, he said.

With a spike of 55,722 new COVID-19 cases and 579 deaths in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 count crossed 75-lakh mark and reached 75,50,273 on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

As per the MoHFW, the COVID-19 count includes 7,72,055 active cases (dip by 11,256 since yesterday) and 66,63,608 cured/discharged/migrated cases (rise by 66,399 since yesterday). With 579 deaths in the last 24 hours, the total death count due to the disease has reached 1,14,610.

"India's Active Cases have fallen below 8L after 6 weeks and continue to slide further down. 22 States/UTs have less than 20,000 Active Cases, and only 3 are reporting more than 50,000 active caseload," MoHFW said in a tweet.

With 1,83,456 total active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country. While 13,69,810 patients have recovered from the disease in the state, 42,115 have died so far.

Among other severely affected states, Karnataka has 1,09,283 active cases, while 6,45,825 people have recovered, 10,478 have succumbed to the coronavirus.

Delhi has 22,884 total active cases, 2,98,853 recovered and 5,981 deaths reported so far.

Meanwhile, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 9,50,83,976 samples have been tested in the country for COVID-19 till Saturday. This includes 8,59,786 samples tested on October 18.

Gujarat registers 1,091 new cases, nine more deaths

Gujarat on Sunday recorded 1,091 coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 1,59,726, while the death toll climbed up to 3,638 with nine new deaths.

In October so far, the state has added 21,151 cases with a daily average of 1,175 cases.

A total of 1,233 patients were discharged on Sunday, taking the total to 1,41,652, while there are 14,436 active cases, out of which 74 critical patients are on ventilator.

Surat saw 239 new cases, Ahmedabad 183, Vadodara 119, Rajkot 107 and Jamnagar 84.

Gandhinagar had 46, Mehsana 38, Junagadh 32, Surendranagar 21, Sabarkantha 20, Amreli 19, Bhavnagar and Patan 18 each, Bharuch 17, Banaskantha and Kutch 15 each, Gir-Somnath and Morbi 11 each, Anand, Narmada, and Panchmahals 10 each. , Dahod nine, Devbhumi Dwarka and Kheda seven each, Chotta Udepur and Navsari five each, Mahisagar four, Aravalli and Valsad three each, Botad and Tapi two each and Porbandar one.

Maharashtra's toll crosses 42K, but deaths and cases fall

Maharashtra's Covid-19 deaths and new cases again nosedived on Sunday, but the state's toll crossed the 42,000 mark even as the recovery rate remained high, health officials said here.

The state witnessed 150 deaths on Sunday, taking the toll to 42,115, while 9,060 new cases took the tally to 15,95,381 cases.

The state recovery rate increased from 85.65 per cent to 85.86 per cent, while the current mortality rate stood at 2.64 per cent.

A total of 11,204 fully recovered patients returned home - taking up the total number of discharged patients to 13,69,810, against the 182,973 active cases in the state.

As per Sunday's figures, there was one death roughly every 9.6 minutes and 378 new cases added every hour to the state tally.

Of the new deaths, Mumbai again led with 46 fatalities, while Nagpur followed with 14, and they were the only two districts with deaths in the double digits.

There were nine fatalities each in Thane, Pune, and Satara, six each in Solapur and Kolhapur, five in Sangli, four each in Jalgaon, Aurangabad, Latur, and Beed, three each in Raigad, Ahmednagar, Hingoli, Osmanabad, Nanded, and Wardha, two each in Nashik and Jalna, one each in Palghar, Ratnagiri, Parbhani, Akola, Yavatmal, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, besides one from outside the state.

Mysuru scribe succumbs to Covid-19

Senior journalist H. Pavan of leading Kannada daily 'Prajavani' of Deccan Herald group died of coronavirus here, an official said on Sunday.

He was 35.

"Pavan, a senior reporter with Prajavani, succumbed to the infection at a private hospital here where he was admitted a week ago after testing Covid positive," a district health official said.

Pavan is survived by a wife and two children.

Haryana reports no death for four months

In a first in over four months, no death owing to coronavirus was reported in Haryana on Sunday, the government said.

Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Rajeev Arora said it is after a span of four months and 12 days or after 135 days that no death due to novel coronavirus was reported.

Last time, the state reported no Covid death was on June 6.

Arora added: "We will remain proactive and alert till there is a lasting solution to the Covid-19 infection."

J&K reports 578 new cases, tally at 87,942

J&K reported 578 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, pushing the Union Territory's tally to 87,942, health officials said.

A statement issued by the Information and Public Relations department said that out of the 578 new infections -- 193 are from Jammu division and 385 from Kashmir division.

So far, 77,886 people have recovered completely.

As many as 1,379 have succumbed to the coronavirus in the Union Territory.

The number of active cases stand at 8,677 out of which 3,440 are from Jammu division and 5,237 from Kashmir division.

Sikkim reports 30 new cases, one more death

Sikkim reported 30 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the state's tally to 3,597, an official said on Sunday.

The death toll rose to 60 after a 78-year-old man from East Sikkim succumbed to the infection, state's Information, Education and Communication (IEC) member Sonam Bhutia said.

According to the official, the man had comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension.

East Sikkim reported all the 30 fresh cases, Bhutia said.

The state now has 272 active cases, while 3,184 patients have recovered from the disease, the official said, adding that 81 others have migrated out.

East Sikkim has so far logged 2,835 coronavirus cases, followed by 709 in South Sikkim.

Sikkim has so far tested 54,282 samples for COVID-19 in the state, the official added.

Sabarimala devotee from TN tests positive

A devotee from Tamil Nadu, who was on a pilgrimage to Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala, tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday during the mandatory antigen test conducted at Nilackal for pilgrims visiting the hill shrine, health authorities said.

As per the Covid-19 guidelines, pilgrims need to carry a negative COVID-19 test certificate issued by a verified laboratory 48 hours prior to their visit.

Antigen tests are conducted at Nilackal for those without the negative certificates.

The Tamil Nadu native tested positive during the antigen test conducted at Nilackal, district health authorities said.

The devotee came all alone and has been shifted to the Covid First-Line Treatment Centre (CFLTC) set up at Carmel engineering college at Ranni.

COVID-19 LIVE: Assam reports 3 deaths, 318 new infections

Guwahati: Assam reported three more fatalities due to COVID-19 and 318 new infections, the lowest in four months, taking the total to 2,00,709 cases, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.

The overall positivity rate stood at 4.64 per cent against the total testing of 43,22,424 samples so far.

The state currently has a total of 28,158 active cases, and they are being treated at different hospitals and Covid Care Centres (CCCs) across the state, along with some being at home isolation.

"Sad to share the demise of three #COVID patients today... My deepest condolences to the bereaved families & friends," Sarma said.

With this, the total number of persons losing their lives due to COVID-19 in the state has gone up to 868.
