The number of coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu saw a dip for the second day in a row on Friday, with the state reporting 5,881 infections.
With the new additions, the total number of infected went up to 2,45,859, even as 97 deaths were reported today, a health department bulletin said.
The state recorded 5,864 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday. Overall death toll from the virus was 3,935.
The cumulative discharges stood at 1,83,956 with 5,778 patients cured on Friday, while there were 57,968 active cases and this includes those in isolation, the bulletin said.

43 COVID-19 deaths, highest single-day spike of 4,453 cases in UP
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh on Friday reported the highest single-day spike of 4,453 COVID-19 cases and 43 deaths due to the disease, taking the infection tally to more than 85,000 and the death toll to 1,630 in the state.
"In the past 24 hours, 4,453 fresh cases of COVID-19 cases were found. There are 34,968 active cases in the state and 48,663 patients have been discharged after treatment," Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health, Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters.
"The death toll due to the disease has reached 1,630," he said.
The total number of coronavirus cases reported in the state is 85,261, the official said.
Prasad said the state has conducted more than 23.25 lakh tests for coronavirus and on Thursday 1,15,618 samples were tested.
The official said there is no vaccine for COVID-19 yet, but people should remain alert and immediately go for testing if they develop symptoms.
Prasad said early detection is a must to effectively tackle the disease.

India's COVID-19 testing hits record high of over 6 Lakh samples in 24 hours
New Delhi: India has achieved another milestone in its fight against COVID-19 by conducting over six lakh tests in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday (MoHFW).
"India achieves another landmark. More than 6 lakh tests done in 24 hours," the Ministry tweeted.
Stressing on its strategy to contain COVID-19 spread in the country, it said that it will continue to implement the strategy of comprehensive testing, tracking and treatment to effectively tackle the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
"The objective is to raise the testing capacity to 10 lakhs tests per day in the medium term," the MoHFW said in a subsequent tweet.

India's COVID-19 testing hits record high of over 6 Lakh samples in 24 hours
New Delhi: India has achieved another milestone in its fight against COVID-19 by conducting over six lakh tests in the last 24 hours, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday (MoHFW).
"India achieves another landmark. More than 6 lakh tests done in 24 hours," the Ministry tweeted.
Stressing on its strategy to contain COVID-19 spread in the country, it said that it will continue to implement the strategy of comprehensive testing, tracking and treatment to effectively tackle the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
"The objective is to raise the testing capacity to 10 lakhs tests per day in the medium term," the MoHFW said in a subsequent tweet.
