COVID-19 Alert: 140 Odia students trapped in Punjab

Odia students have made an appeal to the state government to evict 140 students trapped in the Central University of Punjab. According to information, after the government's order students have been instructed to leave the college building. On March 16, Odisha reported its first positive covid-19 case and the patient was admitted to Capital Hospital.

Bhubaneshwar (Odisha): At least 140 students from different districts of Odisha are trapped in Central University of Punjab and have sought the help of state government to help them. The students have urged Patnaik-led government in the state to take immediate action and evacuate them at the earliest.

The university has issued a notice ordering the students to vacate the premises within two days. According to information, after the government's order students have been instructed to leave the college building.

Hours after the first positive case of Covid-19 was reported from Odisha, the state government has foisted fresh travel restrictions and more precautionary measures are been taken to prevent the spread of the disease. Government spokesperson informed that a 33-year-old researcher in Italy was admitted to Capital Hospital and had a travel history to Italy. His reports showed positive results on Sunday after his blood and swab samples were sent to Regional Medical Research Centre RMRC Bhubaneswar.

To keep a track of the entire situation, a special team of Health and Family Welfare department has been formed. The state government is reportedly collecting data of all those who had travelled with the patient so that they can be tracked for quarantine.

With coronavirus gripping the country, states are heading towards lockdown situation and restrictions have been imposed on social gatherings. India’s total number of cases touched 126 after fresh cases were reported from several states like Maharashtra, Ladakh, Kerala as told by the Union Health Ministry.
