The central government will be charging a double fee from vehicles entering FASTag lanes without FASTag from December 15. The Centre had earlier issued a deadline of December 1 for the same. FASTag is a reloadable tag under which toll charges are deducted automatically from a prepaid account and lets one pass through the toll plaza without stopping for the cash transaction.

New Delhi: Centre on Friday extended the deadline for charging of double user fee from vehicles which enter FASTag lane without FASTag, to December 15 from December 1.

"It has been found that many citizens have still not enabled their vehicles with FASTag due to various reasons. Accordingly, to provide some more time to citizens to buy and put FASTag on their vehicles, it has now been decided that charging of double user fee from vehicles which enter FASTag lane without FASTag will start from 15th December instead of 1st December," the government said in a statement on Friday.

"In order to save fuel, time and pollution and to ensure seamless movement of traffic, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, has launched National Electronic Toll Collection program (NETC) which provide for the collection of user fee through FASTag based on RFID technology," the statement informed.

Centre said it was decided that all lanes (except one lane on each side) in fee plazas shall be declared as 'FASTag lane of Fee Plaza' by December 1, 2019.

Accordingly, NHAI has equipped all fee plazas with Electronic Toll Collection System. For ease in availability of FASTag, NHAI has launched MyFASTag APP whereby all information regarding FASTag can be obtained, it said.

RAHUL-THAKUR REMARKS
I stand by my statement terming Pragya Thakur 'terrorist': Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said he stood by his remarks on Twitter terming BJP MP Pragya Thakur a "terrorist" and was ready to face any action.
He also claimed that Thakur believes in violence, the way Nathuram Godse did.
"Yes, I stand by my statement. What I have written on Twitter, I stand by it. Yes," he told reporters when asked if he stood by his statement calling Thakur a "terrorist".
Asked about BJP calling for action against him for his remarks, Gandhi said, "That's ok. There's no problem. Whatever they want to do, I'll welcome."
The Congress leader said what Thakur says what she believes in. "I don't agree with her, but she believes in it," Gandhi said.
Godse also used violence and she also believes in violence, he said.
Gandhi hit out at Thakur over her remarks on Godse and said she has displayed the heart of the BJP and the RSS, and it cannot be hidden.
"Terrorist Pragya calls terrorist Godse, a patriot. A sad day, in the history of India's Parliament," Gandhi had said on Twitter.
Reacting to Pragya's praise of Godse in Parliament on Wednesday, he said, "What she is saying that is the heart of the RSS and BJP, what can I say? It cannot be hidden. I don't need to waste my time demanding action against that woman."
Bhopal MP Thakur on Friday tendered an apology in Lok Sabha but said her remarks on Godse have been twisted.
She said her comments were in a different
context. PTI SKC
