New Delhi: A Delhi court granted anticipatory bail to former finance minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti in Aircel Maxis cases filed by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate.
"In event of arrest, they be released on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and one surety of like amount. The accused are directed to join the investigation," the court said.
P Chidambaram's lawyer Kapil Sibal in the court said, "As far as CBI is concerned why should I (P Chidambaram) be sent to judicial custody? They've asked all questions. I'm willing to go to ED’s custody. I should not be sent to judicial custody."
According to reports, the father-son duo gets protection from arrest by the investigative agencies in the matter. The Chidambarams are under the scanner of investigating agencies in the Aircel-Maxis deal as also the INX Media case involving Rs 305 crore.
