Another BJP Sarpanch shot dead by terrorists in JK's Kulgam, second attack in less than 48 hours

Kulgam: Another Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) sarpanch, Sajad Ahmad Khanday was shot dead by unidentified terrorists outside his residence at Vessu Gazigund area of Kulgam on Thursday. He later succumbed to severe injuries.

According to officials, Khanday was severely injured in the firing. He was rushed to Anantnag's Government Medical College but the doctors declared him brought dead to the hospital.  

"Gunmen shot and critically injured Sajad Ahmad Khanday, BJP's Sarpanch from the village of Kulgam, this morning," a senior police official told ETV Bharat.

The officer further said, "Khanday sustained bullet injuries in the chest and abdomen. Unfortunately, he succumbed while being evacuated to the nearby hospital for treatment."

Meanwhile, the area has been cordoned off by the police to nab the attackers.

The attack comes two days after Arif Ahmad, a sarpanch affiliated to BJP, was critically wounded after suspected militants fired upon him at Akhran Qazigund on August 4.

He was shifted to an emergency hospital and is undergoing treatment.  

"Terrorists fired upon one Arif Ahmad at Akhran (sarpanch). He is being shifted to an emergency hospital. He sustained an injury to the neck," the Police had said.
