New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday visited the National Police Memorial to pay tribute to the policemen who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
The 54-year-old stalwart laid wreath at the memorial which is located in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri area.
Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Director of Intelligence Bureau Rajiv Jain, Director of CRPF Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, other officials of paramilitary forces, Delhi police and Union home ministry attended the event.
The memorial is spread over 6.12 acres and has a 30-foot tall heavy black granite central sculpture, a museum and a ‘Wall of Valour’ bearing the names of policemen who have died while serving the nation since Independence.
Standing almost in the centre of the campus, this sculpture has been designed by a renowned Indian sculptor, Adwaita Gadanayak, who is presently the director-general of the government-run National Gallery of Modern Art.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah took the charge of Ministry yesterday. Shortly after taking the charge, Shah held a meeting with senior officials to discuss security issues. Soon after the meeting, Amit Shah met Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik over the situation in the state.
