New Delhi: Emphasizing that people need to understand there was nothing in the amended Citizenship Act that would affect them in any manner, the BJP on Monday said opposition political parties were not actually concerned about it, they were, in fact, furthering their own agenda against the "pro-poor government" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by organisation protests across the country.

BJP accuses INC for misleading people

"People should understand that the amended Citizenship Act won't affect them. It's not for them. It's for people from other countries," Bizay Sonkar Shastri, national spokesperson of the BJP told ETV Bharat here.

Expressing regret over the nationwide protests against the newly amended act on citizenship, the BJP leader said how can this cause any problem to the people of India, when it has nothing to do with them.

He said it's the opposition parties that are, in the name of opposing the amended Citizenship Act, were on roads to create problems for the Modi government.

"They are not bothered about the act. They are opposing the pro-poor government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he said.

The BJP leader also raised the question of why Congress would always organise big rallies when protests are on in the country.

There have been agitations across the country people demanding to scrap newly amended citizenship law. The national capital, various states in the North-eastern region and Bengal are some of the regions where people have been on the roads to protest against the newly amended law.
